Sirevåg - Bergen - Skei - Geiranger
|
Bergen (Norway)
Old, beautiful Hanseatic buildings are well kept in spite of considerable structural work needed. The harbor architecture blends seamlessly in with the rest of the city center, overlooking the fjords and sheltered by hills.
Skei in Jølster (Norway)
Situated in beautiful natural surroundings at the northern end of Lake Jølster. An excellent and perfect base for exploring the nearby area with glaciers, fjords, mountains and lakes. A must see in the area is Fjærland glacier museum.
Geirangerfjord (Norway)
The Geirangerfjord
areas are considered to be among the most
scenically outstanding fjord areas on the planet.
Their outstanding natural beauty is derived from their
narrow and steep-sided crystalline rock walls that
rise up to 1400m direct from the Norwegian Sea
and extend 500m below sea level. Along the sheer
walls of the fjords are numerous waterfalls while freeflowing
rivers rise up through deciduous and
coniferous forest to glacial lakes, glaciers and rugged
mountains. There is a great range of supporting
natural phenomena, both terrestrial and marine
such as submarine moraines and marine mammals.
Remnants of old and now mostly abandoned
transhumant farms add a cultural aspect to the
dramatic natural landscape that complements and
adds human interest to the area.

Ålesund (Norway)
The city and district by the 62nd latitude. The district is called Sunnmøre – which means the southernmost part of Møre, and refers to the days long past. The name is perhaps British – More – some historian says so.
The district stretches from up in the mountains and down to the sea. The land falls in terraces to the town, and ends in the continental shelf with its hundreds of miles of rich fishing and oil grounds.
The city centre was razed to the ground by a fire in 1904 and later rebuilt in the Art Nouveau, or Jugend, style combined with national and regional traditional features.

Kristiansund is built on four islands, where Nordlandet, is the largest, and the site of the local airport, Kvernberget. Gomalandet and Kirk(e), second and third in size, are considered separate "lands" (islands) even though they are connected. The smallest island is Innlandet. Kristiansund is one of the most densely populated cities of Norway.

In the beginning it was the seat of the King, and the first capital of Norway (until 1217). Trondheim became rapidly Norway’s centre of power. Due mostly to another king, Olav Haraldson, who fell at the battle of Stiklestad in 1030 AD. The king died, but lived on as a martyr and saint. The Nidaros Cathedral is built on the site of St. Olavs grave. It has been, and still is a popular pilgrimage site.

This Norwegian fortress was constructed in the 17th century as a replacement for the border fortress at Bohus, which had been lost when the province of Bohuslän was ceded to Sweden by the terms of the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658. The fortress was named after King Fredrik III of Denmark and Norway, and the town of Halden was also originally named after him, having been known as Fredrikshald between 1665 and 1928.
Sarpsborg (Norway)

The city was founded as Borg by the famous Viking King Olav Haraldsson (Saint Olav) in 1016. Unfortunately most of the old city landed in the river Glomma, after a mudslide between 1200-1400. The city was rebuilt at a safer location but was burnt down to the ground by Swedish invaders in 1567. Half the population evacuated down the river to what is today known as Fredrikstad, about 15 km downstream. Again Borg was rebuilt, and the population is steadily growing.
